A truly wonderful book! If you want to give your kids a taste of literary fiction, this is a good place to start. My sons adore Captain Underpants and tons of books in that genre. Mercy Watson brought us back to beautiful writing. Both my 6 and 4 year old begged to stay up late so we could finish the book. We did happily. All 63 pages in one sitting. A truly enjoyable book!

My 6 yr old loves the Mercy series. Every night he requests for me to read a few chapters to him after he reads his Henry and Mudge. He laughs and says "oh, no mercy won't be getting toast with a great deal of butter"
We loved the short chapters. Illustrations are super cute. Story was very fun and my two children loved it(a 6 year old girl & 7 year old boy). We will definitely get more of this author's books.
We loved this book! Mercy is a funny character. She loves toast with a great deal of butter on it. This is funny because she is a pig and toast is the only thing she thinks about. In another part, Eugenia, their neighbor, was chasing Mercy away from their house, but Mercy thought they were playing tag. Mercy was being playful and Eugenia was mad. Hilarious! If you are in elementary school and like funny books, then you should read Mercy Watson to the Rescue!
My 6 year old is a very reluctant reader. This has thrown me for a loop, because I have always been an avid reader and made the mistake of assuming all my children would be too. I've been searching for a book that could spark a love of reading in her. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but she was hooked after looking through the pictures and promptly picked up the book and started reading out loud to me. We're both thrilled. Love the illustrations and the fun and silly Mercy Watson.
So funny! Loved the photos and the story line! Had my 6 year old cousin, Kate, read it to me. She has had difficulties reading so far, but challenged herself with this one. She did great! The plot and pictures kept her engaged and she would not put it down! She was so incredibly proud she got through this "cool chapter book" all by herself! Only tough words were names like Eugenia and Lorenzo, but now she can read them )
This is the best serious I have come across for starting to introduce a young one to chapter books. The illustrations really are fun, bright, and engaging. The cost of these books is so great because they are nicer quality binding and illustrations than most short chapter books. We are reading these to our newly 3yo and she loves them. We have done a few early chapter books but these really shine through. Some other early chapter books are too short these are a nice length.
We got these books when my daughter was three and she is now six. We've read them over and over and she still loves them. She can read them herself now. Great characters. In fact tonight we had toast "with a great deal of butter on it" -just the way Mercy Watson likes it-with our soup.
